Sheila Miller earned her PhD in mathematics before moving to New York City where, among other things, she was a Fellow at the Writers' Institute at the City University of New York's Graduate Center. While there she worked with editors such as John Freeman of Freeman's, Matt Weiland of Norton, Hannah Tinti and Patrick Ryan of One Story, and Kent Carroll of Europa Editions, among others. For 10 years she was a professor of mathematics while also editing and writing both fiction and nonfiction. As a mathematician, a writer, and an editor, Sheila is interested in relationships and harmonies between the parts and the whole. As an editor she specializes in strengthening the clarity and impact of writing through understanding how the micro- and macro- elements of a piece work together (or don't). A member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, she is also the sports editor at The Taos News, named the best large weekly newspaper in the U.S. by the National Newspaper Association in 2018.
